PERMACULTURE VEGETABLE GARDEN
a living garden in our domaine
Just a few steps from the hotel, the vegetable garden at Domaine de la Bretesche reveals another way to experience Brittany: closer to the land, the seasons, and the natural world. Created in 2019 across nearly two hectares, it is cultivated according to the principles of permaculture, with respect for the soil, water, pollinating insects, and biodiversity.
Along its pathways, fruits, vegetables, aromatic herbs, edible flowers, and ornamental plantings create an ever-changing landscape, designed both to inspire the estate’s kitchens and to spark the curiosity of visitors. Chickens and rabbits add to this joyful, authentic atmosphere, where every detail reflects the connection between nature, gastronomy, and the art of living.
More than a vegetable garden, it is an experience to discover during a stay in southern Brittany, a meaningful pause at the heart of a committed estate.

ECOSYSTEM & BIODIVERSITY
life in the vegetable garden
THE RABBITS
Curious yet discreet, the rabbits bring a gentle sense of life to the garden. Loved by children, they help make the vegetable garden a true place of discovery for the whole family.
THE CHICKENS
In the vegetable garden, the chickens do more than wander between the crops: they are part of life at the estate, all the way to the plate. Their eggs, collected each week, are served at breakfast for a simple, fresh, and deliciously local start to the day.
THE INSECTS
Ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies, bees, and ground beetles… These precious garden allies help protect the crops, encourage pollination, and naturally preserve biodiversity. A discreet little army that allows the vegetable garden to flourish in harmony with nature.
At the vegetable garden of La Bretesche, permaculture is based on a simple principle: letting nature work in its own intelligent way. Each element plays a role in the balance of the garden. Bees contribute to pollination, earthworms aerate the soil, while ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies, and ground beetles naturally help regulate certain pests.
These natural allies help preserve a living vegetable garden that is more resilient and more respectful of its environment. Seeds also tell the story of nature’s ingenuity: some travel with the wind, others cling to animals or germinate with the rhythm of light and water.
Through this biodiversity, the vegetable garden becomes a true place for observation and learning. A nature experience in Brittany that offers a simple way to understand how a balanced ecosystem nourishes the soil, protects the crops, and supports more sustainable agriculture.
FROM GARDEN TO PLATE
living cuisine
At La Bretesche, the vegetable garden is just a fifteen-minute walk from the restaurant. Here, the connection between the land and the plate is part of everyday life: a few herbs cut in the morning, edible flowers picked at perfect maturity, vegetables harvested with the season… and lunch already takes on a different flavor.
This exceptional proximity allows the estate to embrace a true short supply chain, where each harvest travels only a few hundred meters before reaching the kitchens. For guests, it is a rare experience in the region, almost a privilege: enjoying produce grown on site, picked at just the right moment, and served with immediate freshness. A reason in itself to discover Le Club restaurant.
THE GARDEN CHALET
wellness in nature
In the warmer months, wellness moves beyond the spa and into the heart of the vegetable garden. Among aromatic herbs, flowers, and the soft light of the season, the Garden Chalet offers a rare experience: a treatment surrounded by nature, in one of the most vibrant places on the estate.
Here, guests come for more than a massage. They come to breathe, slow down, listen to the garden around them, and enjoy a moment that feels truly unique. A secluded treatment cabin, the scents of the vegetable garden, the calm of southern Brittany… a signature La Bretesche experience, to be enjoyed at least once during your stay.
